Environment

The environment is everything that is around us. It can be living or non-living things. It includes physical, chemical and other natural forces. Living things live in their environment. They constantly interact with it and adapt themselves to conditions in their environment. However, environmental pollution due to anthropogenic activities is a major concern. Industrial pollution is of serious concern and referred to the undesirable outcome when factories (or other industrial plants) emit harmful by-products and waste into the environment such as emissions to water bodies (water pollution), deposition on landfills etc. (land pollution) or emission of toxic chemicals into the atmosphere (air pollution). Pollution control is mainly associated with the methods used to control the emissions and effluents into air, water or soil. Without pollution control, the waste products from over consumption, heating, agriculture, mining, manufacturing, transportation, and other human activities, whether they accumulate or disperse, will degrade the environment. In the hierarchy of controls, pollution prevention and waste minimization are more desirable than pollution control.
